..... It is a story of seventies counterculture. Episodic, poetic, and recursive.
It uses storytelling and hallucination as themes. It opens as twenty-year-old
Jack is incarcerated in a mental hospital. The story traces how Jack got there,
beginning with a painful childhood, following cross-country bicycling trips,
hitchhiking, hopping freight trains, while sinking into a world of drugs, alcohol
and crime. Jack travels to a Poetical Hoohaw, sees the end of a rainbow
in Eureka, California, falls in love with an older woman in Santa Fe, New Mexico
after living on a commune in Palo Alto, California. He steals gasoline, rides
with truckers, and ultimately discovers a Rolls Royce with keys in it on July
5th, 1978 after attending a marijuana smoke-in in Washington, DC the day before.
